About the Client: The City of Gilroy is a residential community of approximately 40,000 people in Santa Clara County, situated 30 miles southeast of San Jose along Highway 101.
Project Description: This project consists of demolishing the existing 13,000 square foot library that had been built in 1974, the construction of a new two-story public library of approximately 54,000 square feet, surrounding site work improvements and an adjacent parking lot. The new library includes children’s story-time and quiet study areas, computer technology, vision literacy facilities and community conference rooms to serve projected needs of the City for the next five decades.
Special Features and Challenges: The new library will achieve LEED Gold through a combination of sustainable design elements including grey water recovery, 60kW PV arrays and increased day lighting and natural ventilation.
Nova Partners’ Role: Nova Partners was engaged early in the project to provide project management services during the preconstruction and construction phases. Nova is working directly with the City of Gilroy and the Santa Clara County Library staff to ensure that the facility is constructed to meet the goals of the community. The overall project budget is $37M and is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2012.
